This month's Tips and Tricks...

For this issue we thought it might be a good idea to post some of our past tips and tricks for you to review during those lazy, not so hazy, hot summer days here in Arkansas. Check out the list HERE!

Software 'n stuff... How about enjoying some "relax time" on your computer with a few Puzzles...You can enjoy them Here for free. Click on the sites Jigsaw Help for info on how to download and setup the puzzles.

Ever wonder who was the first to do something? How about the longest something or even the shortest something. Have fun asking HERE. Bet you'll spend hours on this site searching and asking questions.

Here's one of my recent favorite programs...a free, easy to use Backup program...EZ Backup It's called  What makes this program somewhat different from other backup programs is that you can backup specific program files. For example, you can use the wizard to backup all files with a specific file extension...like .Doc for all your Word documents. Maybe .jpg or .gif. Great if you have photos stored all over the place. You can also backup all your e-mail folders and Favorites. Here's more info on this program...Click

Final thought... Another great year for all of us here at SeniorNet. We had over 450 students attending classes during this class year and many graduating students have pre-registered for the fall session.

The question about Vista continues to cross my desk and the good news is that this summer we plan to ready our computers to handle both Windows XP and Vista. Will we have Vista classes come fall? I cannot answer that at this time but we are preparing ourselves for that possibility. This will be our last eNews.com issue for now as we take our summer break. The next issue will be published in August and at that time I should have more info on Vista in our classrooms.

There have been many news articles on 'going green' and saving our resources. Can you help? You can if you're in the habit of letting your computer idle 'on' all day (and night) long. There have been numerous discussions on should I or should I not leave my computer on when not in use. My position has always been to shut it down...at least when I plan on being away from it for several hours and, especially overnight. Not only will you give your computer a break and an opportunity to 'clean itself up' but you may save, surprisingly, several dollars a month on your electric bill. If you do not turn your computer off then at least consider setting your power options to "turn off your monitor after" maybe 5-10 minutes of idleness. Save power and your monitor as well.

Overnight is especially important...why? Well, see what happened to my wife's computer when she forgot to shut it down the other night...Click this: see.htm

Until next time...
